NEM 3.0 reduced solar export compensation by approximately 75% compared to NEM 2.0. For industrial cold storage and manufacturing facilities that run continuous loads, that makes exporting an afterthought. Solar generates maximum power from 10 AM–2 PM. Your PG&E demand charge is most likely set between 2 PM–9 PM, when your compressors, equipment, and operations are at peak. That timing mismatch is why solar alone rarely reduces demand charges.
